LLM Law

This LLM programme gives students a flexible approach in terms of the modules they select and provides students with analytical and reflective skills and expertise in their chosen pathway.  It provides a learning experience which will enable students to develop their academic ability and enhance their performance in employment and further develop their career opportunities and an opportunity to meet students from other backgrounds and countries.  It provides the successful candidate with a recognised postgraduate qualification in law.

All students are able to take the module International Commercial Arbitration. Lancashire Law School is a recognised course provider for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the areas of domestic and international arbitration. Students passing this module will be eligible for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, allowing them to use the post-nominal letters ACIArb. CIArb’s approval of the module demonstrates that our LLM Courses are geared towards employability allowing students to gain skills that are recognised by reputable professional organisations. This qualification will also allow students to progress further through to Membership and Fellowship levels of CIArb, courses that will be offered as stand-alone short course within the Lancashire School.

Students can also elect to take the optional module, International Commercial Mediation. Lancashire Law School has achieved an international reputation for its specialisation in Mediation law and practice. Students who successfully complete this module will gain accredited mediator status, as this module is approved by the Civil Mediation Council, the recognised authority in the United Kingdom for civil and commercial mediation

Course Information:

Students take 6 modules and a dissertation of 15,000 words (on a Topic of their choice).  For the LLM in Law, students must take 1 compulsory module: Advanced Legal Systems, plus 5 optional modules from a list which includes International Commercial Mediation; International Commercial Arbitration; International Intellectual Property Law; EU Single Market Law; WTO Law & Policy; International Commercial Litigation: the Law Relating to Security at Sea; International Criminal Law & Security; International Human Rights Law; Transnational Regulation of Terrorism; Transnational Regulation of Human Trafficking; International Corporate Governance, Banking & Financial Services Regulation, International Corporate Insolvency Law and EU Trade Law and Policy.

Where English is not the applicants first language then a score of 6.5 on IELTS (with no individual component below 6.0) or equivalent.
