LLM Commercial and Corporate Law

Whether your aim is to progress within a law firm specialising in commercial and corporate work or join the legal team of a global corporation, this LLM degree will provide essential in-depth knowledge to help you succeed. Its flexible structure will enable you to design a programme that suits your individual needs by choosing from a wide range of optional modules. These draw on the world-leading expertise of our academics in areas such as corporate governance, secured transactions, conflict of laws, international business law and maritime law. The options also include modules on ship finance, insurance and ship sale and purchase that are not widely available elsewhere. In addition, our extensive links with law firms will enhance your learning and help you to build professional networks.

 In accordance with University regulations, applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English by offering one of the recognised tests in English. Alternatively, you should supply evidence that you have undertaken formal study in English at an institution that teaches award-bearing programmes in English.

The following test scores are accepted for direct entry:

IELTS 7.0 with 6.0 in each component

A score of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component together with satisfactory completion of the six week LLM Pre-sessional programme on English legal language and skills will be accepted.

You will graduate with specialist knowledge and transferable skills that will help you to succeed in a wide range of fields. You could work as a solicitor or barrister, or work for a company’s in-house legal team. Your skills will be sought after by banks, insurance brokers, oil trading companies and P&I (protection and indemnity) clubs, to name just a few examples. The LLM is also an essential foundation if you are considering further study at PhD level with a view to an academic career.
