ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF LAW MANCHESTER

Our Manchester centre is located in the heart of the city, with close connections to many of the North West’s leading law firms and businesses. It offers professional, modern study facilities in a city with one of the largest student populations in the UK. This contemporary centre has expert tutors and first-class IT and learning resources, including a break-out area, lecture theatre, on-site café and great transport links.

Our connections mean that we have a wide range of leading lawyers and employers visiting the university throughout the year. Presentations are given on many different aspects of legal and business life, giving valuable insight into how to achieve your career goals.

OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY

Being in the heart of the city, the transport links are excellent and there’s always something going on. Most famous as the home of Manchester United and Manchester City football clubs, Manchester is also host to some of Europe’s premier sporting venues and events including Old Trafford cricket ground and the National Cycling Centre. As well as sport, there’s the Manchester Arena, Whitworth Art Gallery, the Opera House and Palace Theatre, masses of clubs, bars and restaurants and fantastic shopping.

With so much going on in the city itself, it’s easy to forget that beautiful countryside is a stone’s throw away - walking and climbing in the Peak District, mountain-biking in the Yorkshire Dales, or a trip to the coast to Formby or Crosby.

A VARIED SPORTS AND SOCIAL LIFE

There are a variety of different sports clubs, social clubs and societies that you can have the opportunity to become involved in and develop.  We encourage a full and varied programme which could include any activity from welcome parties, live music events, quiz nights, balls and parties, and theatre visits. Some recent activities include:

• Sports including badminton, football, netball, rugby, squash and tennis

• Dance

• Creative writing

• Debating

• Lawyers Christian Fellowship

• SICE (Speakers, Inspire, Challenge, Educate)

We also run a full programme of practice related activities, including the Bar Society for aspiring barristers, the Manchester Enterprise Competition, negotiation, mooting and a Speakers’ Corner for guest speakers from both within and outside of the legal industry.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The Student Association works in partnership with the university to influence, support and help you forge new relationships, whilst offering an essential service. It also helps to organise a whole array of clubs and societies for students, ranging from football and netball, through to yoga or trampolining, film & TV societies, debating clubs and human rights groups.
